Brief Description: continuing to refine shape of mold
|
|
I noticed that, looking from the outside of the mold, my foam and microballoon filler is creeping up above the line I had drawn on the mold to indicate space I wanted to remove, and I wondered if this is a problem. So I reassembled the top cowl to the bottom mold over the engine, and looked forward through the aft bottom exhaust opening to make sure I still have good clearance from all the engine parts inside. Looks good. I decided to try a layer of fiberglass over my next application of microballoons, so I can see clearly how the shape is developing. I used the slow-hardening epoxy hardener, so I could apply the microballoons approximately where I wanted them, then laid down a layer of fiberglass cloth while it was still workable, so I could push the microballoons around under the cloth to get a nice smooth curve. I did this over the aft half or two-thirds of the keel area today, and i like the way it turned out, so will do the forward portion tomorrow.
