Because it has been years since I did any rivetting, I decided to make up a small test piece out of scrap spar materials. I made it in three sections, matching the different thicknesses of the center section spar carry-through, the inboard part of the wing spar, and the outboard end of the wing spar. I'm really glad I did this, because the test results were very poor, and I am very happy that all these smileys are on scrap rather than on my new spars. I didn't take me too long to get back in the groove of making acceptable shop heads, but I really made a mess of the manufactured heads. I am going to have to make up a much bigger practice piece, and do a lot more practice, before I tackle the real parts.
