Brief Description:  Dempling the wings leading edge

I used the Sonex simple dimple tool. I had to buy a box of nails because each nail would break after three or four uses. I also filed off one side of the tool to get into tight areas. I used a hand rivet tool some but I found that the air rivet gun worked best if you keep the pressure at about 40 psi.

The process went as followed:

First this is a two man job.

The wing was positioned leading edge up using two saw horses. One under the protruding spar and on the wing tip side a two-by-four had to be inserted though the inside of the wing ribs and over a saw horse. Support at the bottom along the aft spar is recommended so the wing can be as square as possible.

One side of the leading edge skin should be fully clecoed and the other side left un-clecoed so that one worker can reach through and insert the back side of the dimple tool and the nail through the hole of the rib and skin. Only take out one cleco at a time. The other worker inserts the top half of the dimple tool and the rivet gun. Worker 1 holds some pressure on the bottom half of the dimple tool, holding it squarely against the rib while the worker 2 squeezes the rivet. Once done the dimple tool is removed and a cleco is inserted in the dimpled hole. One at a time.

When one side is completed then the process is completed on the remaining side.
