Brief Description:  Fit turtle deck to fuselage

Began fitting the turtle deck. Plans indicate the turtle deck skin should fit inside the side skins? I plan to install it outside the side skins so rain & moisture wont seep into the fuselage. I think other builders have done the same.

The turtle deck skin punched holes along the side fuselage stringers fit well however, there are problems where the former ribs attach to the top stinger brackets. If the formers are placed up against the rear of the top stinger brackets, the top skin holes are about 3/16" too far forward and they actually miss the former flanges. Think I've read where others have had similar issues. To resolve I plan to attach the formers to the front side of the top stringer attach brackets and add a 1/8" spacer between the former and the bracket. This will place the skin holes exactly in the center of the former flange.

Also, the skin holes do not line up well on the end bulkhead flange. The skin and holes are too far to the rear so I plan to add another 1/8" spacer between the top stringer end tab and the rear bulkhead. The front formers and skin appear to line up well. The first set of formers are sitting too far forward, actually about 1/8" forward of tyhe skin edge so I may have to cut off the top stringer attach tab and replace with an angle bracket moved about 1/8" rearward.

The flanges on the formers fit pretty well against the skin after I adjusted them so I don't have to add a bunch of spacers between the former flanges and skin as others have done. I may have to add a couple spacers to the top flanges though.
