Brief Description:  First engine start, adjustments and mag timing

After checking all fuel and oil connections another time and with helper Skip there to man the fire extinguishers it was time for the first engine start. It took several attempts of priming to get fuel through all the lines but on the third attempt the engine fired up and seemed to run smoothly, thought RPM was too high even with the throttle fully retarded. I also noted that the RPM on the Skyview was doubled what it shoud be.

I shut the engine down and adjusted the throttle linkage to allow it to fully close. I also when into the setup menu to set the pulses per revolution to 2 for the electronic ignition.

The next start went ok but as the engine warmed it began backfiring and I found that it would not run at all on the right mag. I have timed the right mag wrong. A few attmpts at retiming whle the plane was out did not succed so Skip and I pushed it back in the hangar.

Afeter Skip left I removed the mag and started the timing process from scratch, with timing pin in the mag, then mate the mag to the engine, then replace the wire contacts and time with the timing device. I think it is right now. The impulse coupling snaps right at top dead center and the points open right at 25 degrees before TDC. Tomorrow will tell!!
