Brief Description:  Ailerons and flaps

The highlight of todays work was a visit by friend Carl Phillips and his friend Bob Bailey. Bob is 91 years old and first soloed on December 7, 1941. He subsequently joined the service and flew bombers in the Pacific theater in WWII. Bob was an absolute delight to talk to and knows much about general aviation and the small planes that I fly. I hope he will come back for another visit soon. And I put Carl to work during the visit and he helped me take the left wing off of the build stand for the very last time and place it in the rolling cradle.

Work on attaching ailerons and flaps continued. First I coutersunk all rivet holes in the flap brace for the right wing. After this and deburring, I riveted the brace to the wing spar. Then I moved on to the left wing, now in the cradle stand, and drilled and riveted the aileron brackets, drilles, deburred, dimpled and riveted the aileron gap seal. mounted the aileron, trued it to neutral, clecoed the flap brace and clecoed the flap hinge in place and began drilling rivet holes. A very productive day and it is way easier on the second wing than it was on the first!!!!
