Brief Description:  Work begun on finalizing Right wing....

After a very interupted past two weeks I got in today for a full day's work on finalizing the Right wing starting with the wing tip work. First thing I had to do was remedy a problem I encountered last week where the fiberglass was extremely thin and weak in the area of the strobe light attachment so what I devised was to cut out the fiberglass leaving a frame as on the opposite surface, that a cover plate can rest on and be screwed to as per the landing lamp set up.

I had to draw and make up a template that fitted perfectly and then cut from scrap 0.32 material a cover plate on to which the strobe and nav light unit was fixed after it was drilled and cut as per drawing OP-39-2. The good thing about this setup is it allows easier removal of the light unit and easier access to the connections and witing behind. I will carry out the same process on the already completed Left tip.

Also final fitted and installed tinnman washers on the lens cover which is now finalized.

What took up a lot of the day was a problem I created by drilling the left wing for #8 screws instead of the stated #6's earlier when I fitted the tip. What resulted after dimpling was a very big hole that severley lacked the necessary 2D edge distance, in fact most were only slightly more than .5D from the edge which caused a lot of concern so the necessary folk were contacted including Vans and our AP to determine if this was safe and if there was a remedy for this.
After photographing and illustrating the problem I sent mails off to the respective parties and I spent a lot of time looking into this as well and found a few instances of this too and just by that would say that it is OK but will wait for Gus's reply to be sure.
