Brief Description:  Fly cutting and routing the nose rib form

I just received my fly cutter from Aircraft Tool Supply and gave it its first run today. I used the fly cutter to cut the lightening holse in the top half of the sandwich. I thought it would make it all the way through the material, but I had to go about 3/4 of the way through the sheet, then flip the rig over and finish the hole from the bottom. While it's tough to see in the photo, there are three clamps holding the piece down so it wasn't launched during the cutting process.

Once I finished cutting the holes in the top, I bolted the top and bottom pieces together, predrilled the bottom plate with a 1-1/4" paddle bit, then ran it through the table-top router with a flush bit to match the two. I'll be using the same router bit when cutting the aluminum as well.

I was a little disappointed with the durability of the fly cutter. After the first hole, although I went slow and steady without too much pressure, the arm that holds the blade has twisted a bit.
