Brief Description:  Cabanes

Another puzzle day. Found the parts for the Cabane. Determining Mike's intention and the final location, measurements, etc took some thinking. He provides measurement for most of the Jig's to position them on the Fuselage. Some I just had to extrapolate off the print ( in other words - guess). I was extremely careful as he points out this is a "CRITICAL" detail and installation. He provides measurements back from the firewall for three size engine choices. I picked the heaviest as I think I'm gonna use my Corvair in this. Deciding what tubes go where and which fittings to use is not real clear but I'm comfident I got it right. I did NOT cut or drill anything until I was satisfied. Used a lot of clamps and tape to set it up however. Once I saw the parts relationship and Bolt size I measured up the Jigs, cut em out and started to build the Cabane on it. Then I moved it to the Fuse and played with it there for an hour or so until I was absolutly sure I had it right...only then....did I measure, mark, cut and drill the mounts. I had to shim the Jig in a couple of places to keep each side exactlly as the other side..I'm happy and sure it's on the money. I then had to take it all apart to remove the jig. I cleaned up and dressed up all of the parts, holes, etc and reassembled it back on the Fuselage. Then I measured it all over again...it's still exactly equal and I believe it's positioned correctly, as well. Whew....This "Quick Build Kit Building is nerve racking. Actually.....it's amazing the difference in the detail and quality of plans and instructions from 1995 to 2008/9...unbelieveable.
