Brief Description: Some additional shots of the elevator closeout wor
Here are some additional shots from today's work.
Remember a couple of days ago I said "I hope nothing else needs LP 4-3 rivets." Well...as Andy Millin (a Velocity builder) would say..."Murphy is smiling." It turns out I am going to need some of those rivets. In doing some research, it looks like the nomenclature "LP 4-3" is a Van's name. There are other substitutes; however, Van's remains the cheapest option (at $0.05 each). As such, I now have an order for 150 on the way (with a discontinued/discounted t-shirt--might as well since I have to pay shipping anyway).
Fortunately, the lack of LP 4-3 rivets isn't a big deal. As of right now, I can still easily continue on other tasks.
In the below shots, you can see...
1. The finished counterbalance rib on the co-pilot elevator. 2. Where I started doing the leading edge of one of the elevators (thus far, that's the only one that I've completed). (See note below) 3. The foam ribs I cut with my new bandsaw (that I got with my Christmas gift cards). It worked like a champ.
As a side note, I stopped by Lowe's this evening and picked up a larger/longer pipe to help roll the leading eges. I hate this task. It's truly a headache to roll these things. I think I would rather rivet all day long instead of rolling the leading edge. Anyway...I'm hoping my new pipe will help out.
This one turned out very well.
I used spray adhesive to keep the template on the foam.
