Brief Description:  HS Tab Fabrication

One thing that I didn't realize about the Vans kits: there is a decent amount of fabrication that's required. I knew that there would be some trimming and general "adjustment" of parts. However, I didn't think that I would be required to actually make parts from raw materials.

In this particular step, you are required to take some aluminum angle and make the HS brackets (which later on will help hold the HS to the fuselage).

As I mentioned in another post, I don't have a band saw (though, that would be a BIG help (and something that I might get after Christmas if I end up with some gift cards...). I do have a jig saw with a metal blade, which is what I used to make the rough cut. I then used my bench sander to fine tune and smooth the shape.

When it came to making the holes, I measured at least twice before cutting. As near as I can tell, the holes should be very, very close to their final positions. (Looking forward in the manual, the two holes on the bottom are used as pilots when actually attaching things to the fuselage.)

Anyway...that step is done. YEA!!!
