Brief Description: Rotorcraft Add-on Status and History

This is where the helicopter work and final construction gets a little difficult.
As I think I’ve discussed before, I haven’t flown a helicopter for almost 8 years. Here’s the deal: I was a fixed wing pilot and loved it. I also had always wanted to try helicopters. I finally found the time to take a demo flight in a R44 and got completely hooked! I started training shortly after that at Bristow Academy in Concord, CA with CFII Laura McColm. She is the BEST!
I was continuing to rent fixed wing planes to stay current while flying helicopters, but I was really trying to focus on my add-on certificate. To make a long story shorter(ish), I had finished all of my helicopter hours, solo’s, night flying, cross country’s (long and short), and was just about ready for my check ride when I purchased my own Cirrus SR22. I was in love with this plane, but thought I would still continue my helicopter training at Bristow.
As things do, my short pause in my flight training turned from weeks to months, and before I knew it the school actually closed and pulled back to Florida. Considering that I was never going to own a helicopter, and the R44’s around the area were renting for over $500 an hour, there was really no point to continue my training elsewhere.
Fast forward six years, and I’ve decided to build a helicopter! That license and current training would be helpful now, wouldn’t it?!
