As you know from past entries, I did as much as I could to build and prepare the main rotor blades before Tom came out to California. Now we needed to install the blades onto the main rotor head, and get the assembly ready for the final alignment before hoisting it up onto the mast and making this beast look like an actual helicopter.
We set up a station for the assembly with various sawhorses just outside the hanger so Tom could tinker with the blade system while I was still cleaning up loose ends and electrical items on the ship.
This was really Tom’s baby, and I only pitched in when a second set of hands was required. The feathering of the blades added some challenges when moving the system around, but for the most part, Tom was able to negotiate the assembly like an experienced conductor.
