Following the SAFARI Helicopter Flight Control Rigging Manual, the Cyclic Pitch Rigging and Cyclic Roll Rigging are mostly setup earlier during the installation of the internal control rods. It was quite a while ago, so this is a good time to run through the instructions again and confirm what I did when I wasn’t as informed as I am now. All looks good.
The Swash Plate Rigging is really where Tom and I spent the majority of our time rigging, also using the control-rigging manual.
We already had the helicopter level and the cyclic and collective were locked in place. The first step was adjusting the left and right control rods to obtain 2 5/8 inches between the bottom of the upper swash plate and the Main Rotor pylon while maintaining a level for and aft swash plate with the center control rod.
We then needed to confirm that the collective had a pull full up distance between the upper swash plate and the Main Rotor pylon of 1 5/8”. We then confirmed that the swash plate had movement in all directions per the rigging manual, with the collective both up and down.
