Brief Description:  E-Mag Wiring / Fan Indicator Light

I had a number of questions as to how exactly to wire the E-Mags. The company offers great installation instructions online, but they have to be a bit general since they apply to many installation configurations. I was able to walk through them with Lynn, who wired Tom’s helicopter, and that was a great help. We both had the paperwork in front of us while on the phone together on different coasts. The timing also worked out where I was actually in PA soon after that, and I was able to crawl under Tom’s ship and take a look at what Lynn did, as well. Once it all made sense, I dug in and completed running the wires to both the E-Mags, main bus, ground bus, mag switch, governor tachometer wire, and finally the pin jumpers on the plug itself. It was a combination of using the E-Mag, the governor, and the Safari schematics to sort it all out. It should work properly, but I won’t know until fire up.

Another issue that came to me when I was sleeping one night is that I won’t be able to know if the landing light or cabin fan is on or off when in flight because I will be activating both of them from the cyclic buttons. I figured that installing an indicator light for each on the console would be a great way to solve this issue. After conferring with Lynn about my idea, I cut in the lights on the console and ran them to each circuit. You basically run power to each light, then run the grounds to the appropriate position on the cyclic switch bus. Now when you turn on the landing light, a green LED light lights up, and when you turn on the cabin blower for heat, a red LED lights up. It looks perfect and it works from either cyclic.
