Brief Description:  Heat Levers – Battery Box – Switches

I picked up my rush order of labels today, and began the careful task of drilling out all of the holes. This job sucks more than many, because one misstep and you scratch the delicate material….which I F&%#ing did! Oh well, I’m sure it’s the first of many, so I did the best I could to touch it up. I started with reinstalling all of the warning lights on the pod, then all the console switches, and finally the carburetor and cabin heat lever switches. As you can imagine, this all took what seemed like forever!

The idea with the carb and cabin heat is that you can turn them on and off with little or no time off of the collective. I have heard pilots not using carb heat in the decent because they think it’s more of a hassle and/or more dangerous to have their hand off the collective and reaching all the way across their body to pull heat from the console, and then again to turn it off for more power and take off. They wanted their hands on the controls during these critical phases of flight. The location in the collective well for both levers was the solution. I’ve seen it done once before, but never heard if it was a good choice. It makes sense to me.

I also installed the exterior latches on my battery box. Hopefully I will still have the proper clearance on the inside for the battery. I still need to make the cable seals, but that can wait a little while.
