Brief Description:  Mixture/Nav Lights/ Ext. Power/ Transponder/Pod Vi

I had a good run of accomplishments today, but let’s see how brief I can be:

Mixture Lever – I installed the lever, but since I put it in a different location than normal, I had to bring it through the console floor and through the bottom of the middle rib in order to give it a proper radius and avoid binding. I used a grommet on the rib so it’s protected from cutting into the aluminum.

Nav lights – Both navigation lights are installed and seal per design. Rather than riveting to the frame, I used 3mm SS screws to hold them in place. They look great.

Exterior Power – I was also able to mount this outlet, and I used an exterior adhesive sealant between the plug and the cabin paint.

Transponder – I installed the transponder and it is going to be a tight fit will all of the wires coming down from the pod. To avoid contact with the transponder body, I made a sheet metal bracket to guide the wires away and safely into the console. I will include a photo of it once it’s installed.

Pod Vibration Mitigation – I ordered special vibration spacers from a company that specializes in vibration mitigation in Canada, but I didn’t learn about this company until after I had drilled holes in the pod, console and frame uprights. Originally, my thinking was to make the pod as tight to the console and frame as possible, but only later did I learn from this company that what you actually need is less contact, and an insulator. Basically what I did was to use half of the isolators they sent and I separated the pod from the console and frame with these rubber spacers that they supplied. I then used the exact length bolt and washer combination so the nut would bottom out on the shank of the bolt with the insulating rubber washer making the contact. Also, in order to seal the resulting gap between the wire passage between the pod and console, I fabricated a grommet that would tightly fit between the two. Won’t know how well it works until engine start, but I have seen them really vibrate in the past!
