Brief Description:  EAA Electrical Workshop

I just came back from another 2 day EAA workshop in Las Vegas. The workshops will be held in Oakland again in March, but that will be too late for my needs and timing.

It was held at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) facility by the airport. This is actually the second time I took this workshop, the first time was last summer at Air Venture. While I learned a ton the first time, I really didn’t have the perspective to apply it to my build as I do now. I have toiled over the many components and wiring diagrams for my ship, and it feels more overwhelming the deeper I go. I felt like I needed a refresher course since I was going to actually be wiring beginning in the next week or two. Practice is never a bad thing, and now that I’ve taken it for a second time, I feel I was completely right. I had forgotten a lot from last time, and I have come away with a significant list of notes that I need to apply to my helicopter and ask clarifications from Safari.

Below are the projects that EAA has you perform which are everything from simple soldering, to pin and tab connectors, to coax antenna connections, to a full mock-up of a panel light and dimmer switch. The projects touched on a lot of different techniques in just a small amount of time.

The instructor and staff were fantastic, and I am really happy with my wiring projects and results. Even though it was only two days long, it is going to be a huge help in many areas, including confidence! Thanks EAA!!
