Brief Description: Add GPS mounts to Instrument Panel
I’m using the Garmin 696 for my panel mounted GPS and I needed to fabricate mounting brackets that wouldn’t conflict with either the adjacent instruments or the actual panel mounting brackets for the pod. There are actually two mounting trays that hold the 696. One mounts to the panel, and the other is an angled tray that angles the unit towards the pilot. They both screw together and the GPS is held in place with a removable bracket mounted on the rear of the unit.
The panel will be painted with a non-reflective wrinkle pain, and as you can see, I used self-etching primer for the rear. In addition, I ordered a hard wiring harness from Garmin that didn’t come with the unit. The only power cord was a 12 volt cigarette lighter plug.
