Brief Description:  Trailer work

I HATE GOING TO THE DMV!!! 3 of the 4 people I had to deal with were actually tolerable, but holy crap was the last woman in desperate need of an anger management program. Seriously?! Why make things SO much harder than they already are?!

Before making the appointment 3 weeks earlier I was on hold for 1 hour and 53 minutes before someone answered the phone from the DMV and was of no help whatsoever. I learned what I could about registering a homebuilt trailer from their website, but there are a number of forms that may or may not have applied, so I filled out what I could and was as prepared as best as possible. Megan at Safari even wrote a separate Bill of Sale for the trailer just to make it that much simpler.

I arrived at my appointment time, and while I had filled out the correct form, I did it in the wrong color ink and had to start over again. This was not a problem since I needed to go back to my Jeep and trailer so I could bring it around to the inspection line which was adjacent to the folks that were waiting to take their drivers test. After retrieving the trailer from the grocery store parking lot across the street, I drove to the location for the “inspection” and waited for someone to be available. Finally, I received the “inspection" which consisted of a woman with a clipboard walking around the trailer once while barely glancing at it and asking me where it came from. I’m pretty sure it could have been made out of cardboard and it would have passed. I then needed to have a VIN number assigned to it, mounted on the tongue, then back inside for two more conversation identical to each other, with two completely different resolution predictions.

I won’t bore you with the rest of the drama because the bottom line is that I was able to get the trailer registered and I received a permanent license plate! I ordered a mounting kit from Amazon, drilled and threaded the mounting holes in the trailer, and BAM….it’s all done!
