Another item that Tom machined for me was an extension for the fuel shut off valve located over the pilot’s left shoulder. The valve lever is much too short to extend through the headboard, so you either need to recess it in a custom box, or you need to be creative and extend the lever out past the headboard. The extension was a much safer choice in my mind because I’m not sure you could get to the recessed lever in a hurry, or if it would even have the clearance from the frame.
Another modification was to the lever itself. The lever has a point on it that is used to line up with the indicated position. This small pointed arrow could be misleading and also it would make the handle conflict with the location of the headrest because of the way it needs to turn. As many have done before me, I removed the arrow with a grinder and rebuffed the handle. Now the large handle itself is the indicator, and you have no question regarding the position of the fuel valve.
