Brief Description:  Anti-CorrosionTtreatment of the Frame

As I have mentioned in earlier log entries, my buddy Tom is flying all the way out from PA to help me rivet the cabin together. I still can’t believe he’s doing that, but I’m incredibly grateful. He’s going to be here next week with his wife Janelle and I need to make sure I am completely ready for him. Have you ever been asked to help someone move, but when you get to their house they're still boxing things up? I hate that! I want him to be able to jump right in to the two person jobs, and hopefully we will have time to take them flying or something else fun with the extra time.

So, one of the things I’ve been putting off is the anti-corrosion treatment of the frame. Now is the best time to do it because the frame is bare, and it will only get heavier with more things on it to damage as the cabin is reassembled. I used a honey bear container (sorry Dawn…the honey is in a jar in the fridge) to inject the frame with the special aircraft anti-corrosion oil that was supplied with the kit. There is an access hole between the seats that you fill, then plug with a bolt. I had to find a spare bolt around the shop, but once I did, I was able to rotate the frame 360 without the oil leaking out.

It’s not uncommon, as I understand it, to find a burn through or void in one of the welds as you rotate it around to circulate the oil. I’m happy to say that I didn’t find a single void or hole, even when it was completely upside down. The vibration of the helicopter is also supposed to help with the migration of the oil as it crawls around the tube. SO glad this is done. Now I can begin to rebuild her!

I also finished installing the last three nut plates for the battery box under the right seat.
