Brief Description:  Cabin Floor/Console Wiring Access

I am getting close to being ready to prime the sheetmetal and get ready to rivet the cabin together. I’m now working from a punch list on the bothersome items that are mostly unseen, not sexy, and yet critical for the next phase of construction. A good example of this is the completion of the wiring access for the console. I needed to complete the route access for the wires and tubes entering and exiting the instrument pod and console.

In the manual, the console to cabin belly access for wiring is recommended to be much larger than the 2 1/2” hole I have provided. I believe the reason for the larger hole is to accommodate the builders hands to access the connections to the various components located and mounted on the exterior of the cabin bottom. As mentioned before, I was very concerned about the limited access through the cabin floor, so I added two large access panels. As such, I didn’t need an excessively large hole through the console.

I predrilled this hole with several bite, increasing the size as I went until I had a proper pilot hole for the hole saw. The hole came out clean, and after deburring the inside and outside of the new penetration, I am very happy with the results. Obviously, I will protect the wires with a hole grommet, but regardless, I want the hole to be as perfect as possible.
