While I’m waiting for the new nut plate jig, I’m beginning on the instrument pod fairing. The pod appears to have been cut into two pieces right down the middle and then widened by fiberglassing in a 3” spacer in the middle and reassembled. The glass work is not well finished so there is a ridge and uneven surface on every side of the pod that needs to be faired and filled smooth.
Going back to my boating days, I ordered West System two part epoxy and a sandable filler as the repair system. I also purchased spreaders, stir sticks, mixing cups, and gloves. After I sanded all of the surfaces, I was able to apply the first coat. It will take several coats, so I don’t need to be too careful with the repair at first.
