Brief Description:  Left Interior Panel Fabrication

Okay, today went WAY better than yesterday. Once again, the template supplied was far from the actual size needed to create the panel, so I needed to create the model from scratch again. I looked up how several other builders have made this panel, and it appears that everyone has chosen to do it a little bit differently.

I decided to integrate the bottom and rear of the collective area into this one piece to more closely match the right side, to limit seams, and to stiffen up the section. I tried to think of any reasons why I wouldn't want to fabricate the panel in this way such as ease of removal for repairs or annual inspection, and I think the pros outweigh the cons.

Working out the bugs yesterday on the opposite side helped me cut the construction time in half today. I spent about four hours on this panel, and then spent about an hour going back to the right panel again and cleaning it up a little.

That is the interesting thing about learning various construction techniques...the more you do and the better you get, the more you realize and notice the imperfections of the earlier pieces. I am not really wired to leave the fit as "good enough", so I took off the right side and improved the panel in a few areas, I need to take off the kick panels as well in order to rebend a section that the cyclic panel will rest against. Hopefully it won't be too bad or take too long.

I'm very happy how this panel came out.
