Brief Description:  Plate Nuts

I finished riveting all of the plate nuts on the left spar with the pneumatic squeezer. I managed to mess up 5 rivets that I had to drill out and replace. A couple had proud factory heads and on the rest I missed hitting the shop head squarely and smeared it.
I was stumped on the rivet length for the two plate nuts installed on the web of the spar. The plans only referenced drawing 11 which does not show the rivet call outs. I finally found it on drawing 13 up in the corner - AN425AD3-6. Looking at VAF, I am not the only one who has had this problem.
Left Spar is now complete.
Next, I got the right spar out and started drilling and countersinking. Without having to think about every step it went pretty quick. Countersinking has been a one or two at a time kind of operation with the empennage kit. With the hundreds done in the last few days I have developed some experience. However, I somehow managed to elongate one of the rivet holes while trying to counter sink it. Not sure how that happened. Theory is this. I noticed that sometimes the bit just won’t cut. Cleaning the chips out of the countersink cage and applying boelube was returning it to expected performance. I think I was leaning hard on the drill to get it to cut when I did this (because it was clogged and I was being stupid) and managed to run it like router I guess! I’ll put some epoxy in when I set the rivet.
