Brief Description: Left Tank Interior Ribs - Riveting
I got started on the riveting. My process is:
- Remove 10 Cleco’s, two from each rib. I started on the bottom of the tank with the most forward holes - clean out any loose sealant from each hole (drill bit, fingernail, and countersink). - Wipe down the front and back of each hole with some MEK - Retrieve 10 clean rivets from the MEK soak can - Apply sealant to each hole with a toothpick - Press in each rivet and cover the manufactured head with a small piece of masking tape - Wipe off excess sealant from the shop head end of each rivet - Rivet. I’m using my 2X gun at 40# and the small tungsten bucking bar. - Remove tape and wipe off any excess sealant with MEK & rag - Repeat
I didn’t make a whole lot of progress, only thirty rivets or so. I banged up my ribs mountain biking yesterday and it was bothering me.
