I went and saw my mechanic friend today and showed him what I came up with. The only suggestion was to vee the ends of the turned ends to avoid having a weld 360deg on the tubing end. Very valid point...wish I would have thought of it!. I vee'd the ends and trimmed about 1/4in from the end so the threaded hole is the same length as the threaded portion of the rod end. I then welded the turned ends to the tubing. Looks like it's a keeper.
Now I have to just wait until I have the other mods done to the tail before I reassemble the stab and elevator sections and finish the pushrods. What mods? Stay tuned...
