The freezer is full of salmon, equipment and vehicles are ready for winter. So after sitting for over 4 months, I took a good look at where I needed to start back on the BH.
One of the things I took on this summer was a floating walkway project for a friend. I assembled the dock sections in the shop and had the all-weather wood stored here as well. After looking at the tail of the BH, it was apparent there was a number of places where surface rust was appearing, especially near the welds. It was all over. I never had any problems before with humidity and rust in the shop, so I figured that the all-weather wood was the culprit. The stuff is so wet and heavy. I had it stored in my shop during the construction and it being warm it must have dried out a bit, increasing the humidity a lot.
So, I spent about an hour and a half with a grey scotchbrite pad, AVL light spray, needle-nose pliers and a rag and eliminated all the traces of rust. It was very light, but rust nonetheless and needed to be taken care of. Nice and shiny now…and lesson learned.
