Brief Description:  Elevator Layout and Trim Tabs

Pretty good day today. I did quite a bit on the elevator and got the trim tab ribs formed and fit the rest of the ribs to the main spar and the trailing edge. I worked on the trim tab hinges as well. They have to be tacked in place when welding the elevator. The hinges weren’t as easy as I thought they would be. Even though they were straight, it took quite a bit of finessing to get it to swing freely. Between welding distortion and movement due to heat, just a little bit off will cause it to bind. I got the first one done....finally...and I had so much fun I decided to do the other. It's all welded now and I have it just about done for alignment/binding. One thing that was interesting. I have to grind the hinge bosses down a bit to allow for paint! The fit is very tight and without taking some off each side there is no room even for paint thickness. The tubing is .058 and it's spec'd at .028, so I have plenty of wiggle room. I went with the bigger tubing so I can use a clevis pin and it turns out to help with finish clearance.
