Brief Description:  Profiled Horizontal Stab Part 10

Well, I took my ribs to my friend's shop and tried the punch. The trial holes I had were just not clean enough.

When I tried it last week, the same thing happened and I thought it was because the metal was just too thin for the machine, so I brought some additional sheet scraps to act as a thickener plate. That really didn't work too well and the punch still left a large burr around the outside of the hole. The holes were a little undersized so the cleaned up ok, but the stuff is just too thin for that machine. The backer was just as thin and it really didn't help. If it were a solid piece I think it would have worked, but the two thin plates can slide and stretch a bit independently of each other while being punched. That's why it just wasn't clean enough...at least that's my best guess. Back to the drawing board...and the step bits!
