Brief Description: Profiled Horizontal Stab Part 8
Back on the project...YAY!
We had our local EAA chapter meeting a few days ago and I was lamenting the fact that the lightening holes in my stab ribs were taking a long time to cut out. One of the members spoke up and said they had an ironworker at their shop. All they use it for is punching holes in plastic at a certain size, but they have all the dies from 1/2 in to 1 3/8ths in 1/116th in increments. He said come on over and see if it would work.
The next day I took a sample with me over to his place of work and it will work perfect! The dies clear the lip of the rib. I was worried the punch would have a turret on top and I know that wouldn't work.
The dies have a locator dimple. So I took the ribs, marked the location and size of all the holes and pre-drilled a small hole to locate the die. I hope to have them punched out next week. It will save a TON of time!
