Brief Description: Horizontal Stab Rib Form Blocks
Summer in Alaska is in full swing, although it hasn't broke 60F yet...but there's always hope. Outside chores that wait all winter are still there, but the list is getting short.
I did manage to do a little on the BH. Pat Fagan sent me his form blocks for profiled ribs for the horizontal stab and rudder. I laid them out with the associated paper templates. The form blocks are made of oak. Pat also made some blocks out of pressboard for the top of the form to capture the piece of sheet metal while it's being formed. It looks like a great idea, but I'll find out when I start banging away on some metal how effective it is. Knowing Pat, it's just right.
I'm having trouble sourcing sheet metal locally that will work for the ribs. I did find a local shop that normally has mild steel sheet, but a local "artist" cleaned them out of all their 22ga sheet, 4 sheets 4x10! Screw art, I need sheet metal. No one in Anchorage had any besides large sheets, minimum 4x10 or x12 sheets. I called the local shop again and they did have some drops for scrap price, so I'm going to take a look tomorrow. It's so frustrating living up here sometimes...
