Brief Description:  Elevator Trim Idea

I have always been pondering how to address the trim system in the Bearhawk. Many have advocated various methods of some type of travel reduction using belcranks or jack screws. Others say just leave it alone and you will get used to it. I think it is something to look at for sure.

I was surfing ebay for gear reduction ideas and stumbled upon this trim wheel from a Maule M7. I think this will be perfect! One rotation of the larger wheel moves the small sprocket less than a ¼ turn…and it’s a real airplane part. This is the simplest solution I have found so far. Issue resolved!

The Maule has a cover and some type of indicator over this mechanism that didn’t come with the trim wheel. But, there are enough Maules in Alaska that it should be easy to fabricate something similar. Also, their trim is located below and to the right of the flap handle. I don’t think I’ll try to put it there, but I will certainly explore the idea.
