Well, I finally decided to splice the headset jack wires together. I was waiting for some Raychem solder sleeves and they finally arrived. I also needed a third hand in holding everything together. I found these special wire tweezers from my old R/C days. They clamp around a very thin wire and makes a heat sink so the insulation doesn’t get melted back. The good news is because of the 90 degree angle at the tip it holds the wire in a horizontal position making it MUCH easier to solder.
