I've been planning to install the hardware for the fuel tanks before I rivet the skins on. That is the next item on my list so that's what I worked on. The filler neck is going to interfere with the skin so I wanted to be able to lift it. After unclecoing the skin and shimming the tank into position I realized I was lifting the skin a lot so learning from my past mistake I decided to remove the skin completely. That made a big difference and made the job a lot easier. Just having access on both sides made routing the straps much easier.
I mounted the top straps first. Mark and drilled the front hole then the back and added the rubber channel. Then I drilled, tapped and cut the steel rod pieces for the adjustment hardware. I drilled and taped all the holes for all pieces as needed before I cut each piece to length. I figured it would be easier to work with one full length rather than a bunch of short pieces.
