Brief Description: Trim fuel tank panels and trailing edges
I trimmed the fuel tank panels to final size. I also trimmed the panel aft of the main fuel tank. Then I removed the top panels and trimmed at the flap and aileron edge. For the flaps I trimmed to 3" aft of the rear web spar - this should be approximately 1/4" long which I will make the final trimming after fitting the flaps. At the aileron top side I trimmed the skins 5" past the rear spar web. This should be the final size. This dimension is dictated by the aileron pocket ribs and will leave about 1/2" to attach the aileron pocket skins to. I drilled the holes for the aileron pocket ribs.
With all the skins back off again I finally remembered to drilled the inboard rib doubler. I also fit the final panel on the wing, the panel covering the trailing edge at the wing root between back ribs #1 and #2. To fit this piece I leveled the trailing edge and then drilled and trimmed. This should have been an easy panel for hole placement but I missed center line. Both ribs the holes are inside the center line to the bend in the flange. It's a little frustrating because I didn't even notice till I drilled both ribs. I should have caught that. It will still work but be more difficult to work with.
I drilled the holes for the aileron pocket ribs. I put all the panels back on. The next time I take all the panels off it will be to deburr and dimple. I also used the edge forming tool on the fuel panel edges. This is the tool that Eric shows in his manual. I just ordered this recently after Eric clarified that he got this tool from Cleaveland Tool Store:
