Brief Description: Finished one inboard aileron hinge
Half the day was spent working on the Bearhawk and the other half skiing. Pretty good way to spend a day.
I fit the other side arm and it went much quicker this time. In fact the fit was so much tighter I thought about redoing the other side. I bent the bottom arm using the 36" brake for leverage. I taped a half of plastic tube to the foot so it wouldn't put a sharp edge in. Then I matched the bend to the plans then started grinding.
I did a dumb thing - after the tack welding was complete I started final welding with the hinge in the jig. I had one foot half done when I started thinking that I wouldn’t be able to get it off the bolt. Sure enough, it was stuck. I took that arm off and replaced it. It just so happened that arm was the one I was thinking of replacing anyway.
After I welded the hinge complete (out of the jig) I put it back in the jig and heated the arms as I bolted it back into position to get everything lined up like it should be.
