Brief Description:  Aileron hinge washers

Well today was a much better day. I was having fun again. Funny how something as simple as making little steel donuts can be fun. I made the .080 washers and round covers for the aileron hinges.

I marked out the washer on some .080 sheet then drilled the 3/16" hole in the center of each. Then oversize cut each one out on the band saw. I put them on a bolt like a shish kabob and ran it in the lathe. A couple things I discovered is I needed a longer bolt to get a better grip in the lathe and I needed to rough grind down the edges of the washers because the sharp edges kept grabbing.

With the corrections the washers cut down on the lathe just fine. Then I made the 3/4" round caps for the rod end tube by grinding them down on the bench grinder. After I made four out of .062 material I realized two needed to be made out of .072 material. Easy enough…
