Brief Description:  False spars

I was on a supply run yesterday and picked up another plumb bob. I've hung a plumb bob on each wing which will stay there through the skinning process.

I positioned the false spars. It just so happened that I had crimped the rib flange right where the false spar intercepts so I had to flatten that area out in all locations. I wasn't intending to joggle the false spar under the rib flange but after slipping them into position it looked like it would be a good idea.

I made a joggle tool by bolting 2 - 3/8" steel bars together with an offset. I then put it in the vise and joggled the spar ends.

I made up some attach angles and positioned, drilled and clecoed everything together.

I started to get ready for the false spar doublers to accommodate the fuel tank straps and I ran into a head scratching moment. I hadn't really thought about the location for these so had to do some investigation. It has to co-locate from the spar points of attach which are at a rivet location. I studied closely what Eric and Erbman did. Even though neither of them defined the actual location you can figure it out by pictures. They do differ a little and I copied Eric’s locations.

I'm locating my tank attach points as follows:
3 bottom straps - rivet location inboard of nose rib #3, inboard of nose rib #5 and outboard of nose rib #5.
2 top straps - rivet location outboard of nose rib #3 and inboard of nose rib #5

In hind sight it would have been a good idea to locate these positions before I riveted the spars. It's 10 more rivets I have to drill out now.

I cut the pieces for the doublers and drilled the holes.
