I polished the manufactured rivet heads with a Scotch-Brite pad and found some of the smiley’s were cosmetic. If I could see a smiley after polishing I decided to drill it out. I flipped the spar so I'm holding the gun over body center now. This feels better to me. I reach over the table with the bucking bar.
I did some more practice and I felt like I was ready to go again. I doubled up the masking tape and have not gotten any more smiley’s.
Some of the shop heads were looking like upside down mushroom heads. Something just did not seem right.
I decided to solicit the Bearhawk group for help. The info I'm getting is that something is not right. I'm using a 3x ATS Pro gun at 95 psi and an Avery (#635) 3 lbs bucking bar.
I'm now giving serious consideration of not using the rivet gun but instead using a dimpling yoke and sledge to set these rivets. I'm tring to remind myself that I'm having fun.
