Brief Description: Main spar capstrips cut and layout
I took some time to make sure I had the main spar cap layout correct in my mind. I did that by drawing a layout. I should have done this before I cut my ribs. I cut my number 2 center ribs 1/8" too short. I'll add a 1/8" spacer to the vertical stiffener.
I cut the 1/8 x 1-1/4" 2024T4 cap strip material to length for the main spars. I saw dollar signs as I cut the first 12' piece in half. I made sure that I had it measured right! It still was hard to bring that saw blade down to the metal for the first cut.
I shaped and deburred the spar cap ends. I cut the vertical stiffeners and deburred about half of them. I marked the vertical stiffener and rivet locations on the capstrips. I also marked out the locations of the area where I don't want to drill holes yet. I marked out the lightening hole locations on the right spar.
The measurement take offs are marked on the plans differently on the main spars than the rear spars. I just converted every thing to how I positioned them on the rear spars so the numbers matched. It was a little confusing at first trying to measure from a different take off point. I basically used the same spread sheet I made for the rear spar with the addition of more vertical stiffeners and measured everything from the start of the spar cap.
