Brief Description:  Organize shop for metal work

It's time to shift gears a bit. I'm going to be working on the wing steel parts now. I've spent the last couple days getting the shop (garage) set up for this task. The first thing I did was clean up the clutter. Then I rearranged my table from the 2' x 16' setup that I used for the spars to the 4' x 8' arrangement. I setup a welding station on the table using some brick for a work area. I also set up a grinder and metal chop saw on the table. Then I set the metal band saw right next to the table and the table saw right next to that. I put a metal cutting blade on the table saw.

It sure would be nice to have one big shop to have everything set up at one time. Some of these tools have been stashed in the corner and have required digging out to get to. It’s a little more work to rearrange things for a new task but it will be worth it to have everything close together and easily accessible in my work area.

After getting everything set up I spent a lot of time doing some practice cuts, fish mouths and welds. I plan to spend a few more days doing practice welds. I've been doing testing to destruction and I'm getting close to where I need to be. Once I feel I’m ready I'm going to get some expert opinion and then start making real parts.

The weather was perfect for flying RC's. Andrea and I flew a couple flights each on Nexstar. It's been a while since we last flew.
