Brief Description:  Introduction

Sept. 17, 2006I’m building a Bearhawk aircraft designed by Bob Barrows. There are several things that attracted me to this aircraft but one thing in particular that drew me in is the ability to scratch build the Bearhawk, not to mention that it is the type of aircraft I’m looking for - a versatile, utility grade, tail dragger, 4-place bush plane. This aircraft can also be built as a kit as provided by AviPro Aircraft (www.bearhawkaircraft.com). It’s always been a dream of mine to scratch build an aircraft. I’m an average guy with average skills. I’m not an aircraft mechanic or machinist and I’ve never built a home built aircraft before. I wasn’t sure if I could build a scratch built airplane, but I’m the kind of person that tends to “step off the edge” and somehow always land on my feet. There are several websites, a CD and builders manuals that provide the “how to,” not to mention excellent support by the Bearhawk builders eGroup. For more information of the “how to” consider the following absolutely necessary:• Bearhawk CD by Russ Erb @ www.qnet.com/~erbman/bearhawkcd.htm • Bearhawk Builders manuals by Eric Newton @ www.mybearhawk.com• Join the Bearhawk eGroup @ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Bearhawk This log is not a “how to” account but is my log to record the progress. I have been planning and studying the process for almost 3 years - long before I cut my first piece of aluminum. My thoughts have gone from “I can’t do that” - to “maybe” - to “yes, I can do this!”I am going to be using methods that others have tried and recommend. There are several different ideas for each step so I’m going to use what makes most sense for me and my own skill level, which basically means I need to keep it as simple as possible. It is also my goal to get flying as soon as possible. Although I enjoy the building process for anything I build, I’m building for an end result, not building just to build. I’m not even sure that I’d identify building as a hobby? It’s more of a task toward a goa
