Brief Description:  Intro

I had started looking at planes a few years back, and kept coming back to the RV8 Tandem. With my 6'3" size I could actually fit. Actually stopped in Van's to see the 8, and then new 10. The RV8 was a possibility, but really wanted four seats. RV10 pricing was just out of my range. At that time our neighborhood had a 3000' grass strip. Either would easily get in and out of there, but that grass strip was always a criteria. Ideal plane would be a four seater plus camping gear. The more I kept looking, the more disappointed I was in finding that "occasional heavy hauler, decent (140 cruise speed), STOL, and ideally four seats. I happened across N303AP one afternoon. I kept thinking it was a production plane from someplace down Georgia, but the more I wandered around looking at the plane the more I liked it. Oddly enough there was "experimental" written in it. Didn't take long afterward to find the "bearhawk" yahoo group. I was convince after the first week there were a bunch of strong minded folks on the list, but nothing about building planes! Thankfully I stuck around to long enough to realize there was a ton of nuggets in all those postings, more like sitting around a campfire with a bunch of old friends. - more later -
