Brief Description:  Elevator - lead weights

Thanks to Ib Schmidt, from EAA187, Poured lead weights. Melted about 6 pounds and 6oz per elevator. Poured approximately 5 pounds into the 'cast in place' damns (tip pointed down, two thin plywood boards to dam the weight in place). I suspect final weight of lead will be around 4 pounds 6 oz when balanced.

MISTAKE - I heated up the lead with my o/a torch. Carried aluminum fry pan approximately 30 feet to pour. Hard to handle, and lead cooled off too much, half the pan was solid (bottom side) due to rapid cooling. Weight only filled halfway! Moved elevator right next to metal bench, Ib holding it upright. Remelted the lead weight, used Meco torch to melt lead in place, poured in the rest. With the "C" channel on one side, tube on the other, and tab in place, lead is locked in nicely by casting in place.

Ib's feet appear in the photo. He was well away during the pour. Face Shield, Heavy gloves, respirator, heavy jacket, long pants, steel tipped boots during the operation.

TRIM FLAP: To fill the tube open ends used some bronze wool, mixed with a little JB weld, stuffed in place. JB weld needs 4 to 6 hours to set, so can be messy. Use too much, easier to use to file down later.
