10 Tabs are 1,8 oz. -- so 88 of these guys would be 1#! Nut plates are lighter than that, but every little bit adds up.

Kydex looks interesting, can be cold or hot formed. Specific gravity is 1.35, Aluminum at 2.70. So with a 0.060" Kydex, just a tad lighter than 0.032" Aluminum. Then again I'd only use 0.032" 2024-T3 for the floor for stiffness, sides in 0.020 or 0.025" thickness. 2024-T4 being stiffer than 6061.
