Brief Description:  Paint booth setup for priming parts.

I built a paint booth today for spraying the primer on the empennage parts. I had a corner of my patio betweent he sliding doors and hot tob that had room for a little painting area. I used some scrap 2x4s left over from another project to build a frame to hold a fan and mount some plastic panels leftover from last year's roof replacement.
The fan is set to blow air out so fumes will disappate quickly (or so that is the idea). I set it so I just have to slide the patio doors open and expose the fan. I had some plastic sheeting that was stapled to the ceiling beans to form kind of a booth to contain spray and fumes. I do have a vapor respirator that can be used for painting as well as the fan. Still seems to get kind of fumey in there, but the fan does help.
I did the first priming today and sprayed a couple coats on the ribs of the vertical stablizer. I need to get new cartridges for the respirator since I could smell the fumes and had to hold my breath, spray and back out. New cartridges should reduce that danger
I did these steps to priming.
1. Roughend the surface of the part with Scotchbright.
2. Clean with Acetone and cheesecloth to reduce any lint sticking to the part.
3. Spray on the primer (from a can). At least three thin coats with about 20 minutes between.

Some warnings. As usual, the fumes are very dangerous, and flammable. I was wondering if the fan motor would case a problem, but I did extremely cautiously try painting with the fan runnig and didn't have anything blow up! I've been cleaning with Acetone outside in the backyard with plenty of ventillation.
So far it seems to be working well. More updates later when I get the final coat on these.
