1 am this morning I was studying builder sites on the trailing edge method. I then noticed that another guy had a familer part on the bottom of his rudder that mine didn't have - the R-918 pieces that I had to fabricate. A few moments of cussing then a trip to the basement to confirm. I have no shame in sharing my mistakes if it helps another builder, so her it is. I did see another guy did the same thing, so I'm not alone.
I had no problem removing most of the rivets, but I had questions about the blind rivets since the manual said to "install carefully since they are hard to remove". I had an idea - what if I cut a groove/notch to fit the part around the shop head of the blind rivet? Or would it be easy to remove? I did ask advice and got mixed replies. I asked Van's and they said it would probably be fine. I put it aside to think about while working on the elevator.
