FINALLY got back to working on the -7, after.... going to Oshkosh and getting lots of ideas on panel goodies as well as other building tips and ideas...doing post Oshkosh maintenance work on my RV-4...selfishly flying as much as possible to get checked out in my father-in-laws newly purchased 2007 Cirrus GTS G3 twin turbo... incredible flying machine...
I changed my mind about ordering a new skin for the forward canopy weldment. Talking to Rick McBride (multiple RV plane builer) at Oshkosh about the problem, he suggested I have the out of line pre punched holes in the canopy frame welded shut, and re-drill the holes in the proper position using the pre punched holes in the skin as a guide...duh...the perfect solution.
I had the holes welded by an expert aluminum welder that I know. Today I placed the skin on the weldment, lined everything up..clamped and strapped everything in place..and surprisingly enough it looks like the fit just might work out.
Buttttt, a lot more fitting, clamping, drilling and head scratching before I am ready to declare victory.
No pics to post as my computer has decided to stop recognizing ANY device attached to my USB ports...alway something...
